Author Topic: I HATE Securespot! "Invalid Arguments. One or more MAC Addresses not found."  (Read 11029 times)

I've had my DIR-655 for a couple of years and I love it.  Best router I've ever owned.

Doing okay until tonight.  All I did at the router level was change the port number for a webcam in port forwarding and rebooted the router as usual, something I have done several times before without any problems.  This was from a wireless connection using a laptop (the one I'm using right now).  All of my computers have had Network Magic installed for the last couple of years.  Everything is updated on all the computers (three machines).

After the router rebooted to accept the setting (the changed port for the web cam), I went back to my desktop PC and when I tried to do some surfing on the browser, Securespot put up a warning page stating:

"Invalid Arguments.  One or more MAC Addresses were not found or are invalid."

All of a sudden I am no longer able to connect to the Internet wireless or wired on this one machine.  So, I thought to reboot the PC to clear things up.  No dice.  I checked ALL of my network settings-everything seems to be the same as it was.  Securespot is DISABLED at the router level (I disabled it last year, not impressed with it, and I don't subscribe to the service).

I checked with another laptop and now it, too, gets the same error.  Only this one laptop I am using right now seems to be unaffected.

So, I thought, time to check for a new router firmware.  Perhaps THAT might clean things up.  I went from 1.32NA (11/09) to the latest, 1.33NA  (released late January this year).  The upgrade went without a hitch.  Unfortunately, the same problem as I mentioned above still persists.

I imagine this may have something to do with MAC filtering, which is something Network Magic does through a simple interface and I've never had any problems with it before.

The network connection indicator on the PC shows that I do have local network AND Internet access.  But I am unable to do ANYTHING Internet - wise, wired or wireless.   The computers can access each other and thus my home wireless network seems to be fine.

How do I get rid of Securespot?  I believe it's behind all of this and I'm FED UP with it!!

I would be grateful for any assistance you folks can provide.

GAWD....I fixed it.  Geeez....and the solution was simpler than I'd thought it woudl be. ::)

I was going through all of the router settings with a fine tooth comb again and discovered the TIME and DATE were off, for some odd reason.  So I used the "copy your computer's time settings" feature.  Saved the settings and everything works fine again.

But HOW did it get to that point in the first place???

i had the same problem today with my DIR-625. "Invalid Arguments. One or more MAC Addresses not found." the time was off also so i did the same thing you did and rebooted my computer (problem persisted even after i reset the time up until after the reboot) and it seems to be working fine. i was five minutes away from throwing that router into the toilet then smashing it. weird it happened on the same day for me and you. wonder if there's others that got screwed up today.

I started having the same EXACT problem as you both mentioned started on the 5th. Still having it today. I am having no luck with rebooting the DIR-655 or PC. Any ideas ?

The time and date gets messed up because there is no battery in the router to maintain it in the event of a power bump. If you enable the NTP server function the router will auto sync the time and you shouldn't have to log in and reset it.

I have had this from time to time and it happened again last night and persists this morning. I had checked time and noticed that it was out (but taking it from server). Adjusted you computer clock and rebooted everything. MAC filtering off. Nothing works. I have disconnected router and plug direct into modem to get this connection. Any advice.

Can I suggest that everyone that is tired of the securespot service randomly blocking your internet access and connecting to the Bsecure servers file a Better Business Bureau complaint:

Against Dlink for not responding for 18 months to a serious problem -
     http://www.la.bbb.org/ComplaintDetail.aspx?CompanyID=13033848

Against Bsecure for implementing a service that forces my home network to connect to servers of theirs without my permission.

Fire away.

I'm in. Doing it now.

Wow. Before reading a lot of the topics here, I had no idea this was such a problem router. Sheesh. I was pulling my hair out trying to find answers when I stumbled into this bees nest. I'm just glad it's not just me having these issues. What sucks though, at least for me, is that it's happing now after the warranty is out.

For sure they've lost any of my future biz.

I had the same problem.  I just turned SecureSpot on, saved settings, turned SecureSpot off, saved settings and it's gone!  Everything working fine now.

I got this e-mail today from besecure.com

We are apologize for the inconvenience our server problems are causing you. We have determined that this issue was affecting not only deactivated accounts but live accounts as well. We have resolved this issue. If you are still having problems there are two work around procedures you can use to clear the router. One of them is to reboot the router.  The other is to enable/disable the Securespot services in the router.  The instructions are below.   If you are still having issues after this process please reply to this email.

Rebooting the DIR:

Open a browser and type the IP address 192.168.0.1 into the address bar.
Log into the router using the default user name Admin and no password.
Click Tools on the top menu.
Click System on the left menu.
Click 'Reboot the Device' button at the bottom.

If rebooting does not work, Enable/Disable Securespot Services:

Open a browser and type the IP address 192.168.0.1 into the address bar.
Log into the router using the default user name Admin and no password.
Click Advanced on the top menu.
Click Securespot on the left menu.
Check the box beside Enable Securespot services and click Save Settings
After the page refreshes uncheck the box and save settings.

Again we extend our sincere apology for this inconvenience. For any additional assistance, please feel free to call us at (877) 617-8679.
