Shareport, Windows 7 x64 and partially printed photos
« on: May 02, 2010, 12:01:29 AM »

Hi,

I thnk I responded a bit too soon about the newest version of the Shareport utility.....

I set my Canon Pixma iP4500 up using a local USB cable on my Windows 7 Pro x64 pc.  It prints both text and photos fine....  I used the latest Canon Drivers etc...

I added in Shareport v3 and now I can still print text items, like the windows test page, but when I try to print photos of seemingly any size, they print in sections near the top of the paper, 4 inches across by about 1/2 inch down the page.  I have rebooted and reinstalled...etc....  Still same result for me....

I just now tried to print a photo from within a word 2007 document, and it split the picture onto 2 pages of paper about halef-way down the picture, tho not the same dimensions as when printing a 4 x 6 photo .

This is VERY weird and VERY frustrating.....

I have been messing with thsi on and off all day today....

It seems as if I re-boot the router I can get a couple/few photos to print properly using shareport, but than it goes back to acting up....

It will print part of a photo, then kick out the page, then print some more, then kick out that page, then print some more with all psy*****lic coloring or even monochrome and then kick that page out.....

I have another win7 x64 pc here and have not seen this problem before.

I don't even know where to look as far as diagnosing this issue....  I saw one thread that suggested changing the USB type in the router setups to WCN, reboot the router, then change it back to Shareport and reboot the router again; this did help a little but only for a couple photos then it goes back to stupid mode...

Anybody seen this ??  Please chime-in if only to maybe point me someplace else....

If it happens on one W7/64, but not on another, then somehow the combination of Sharepoint and the specific PC seems the culprit. Maybe stupid suggestion: did you re-install the printer-driver?

Hi,

Oh yes... I did as full a debug/troubleshoot session as one can do while at the mercy of the shareport programmers....

I think DLink show reimburse me for the costs of supplies (photo paper & Inks and such)....

I am not the only person seeing this BUG with similiar setups....X64 is not playing well with Shareport (or vice versa)...  It seems to be some sort of timing issue with the data buffers (total guess on my part) in that it is sending page feed command too soon and the data is not spooling properly.....  Again, not being a coder, I can base my guesses on the symptoms I & others are seeing.....

I even tried uninstalling v3.0 and went back to older version 1.10 and saw the same results....

Hi,

Well, I went ahead and bit the bullet and ordered a USB (2.0) print server ($25) off ebay.  I know there is some type of bug with shareport and Win7 x64 and I can't be sure when DLink will, if ever issue an update that fixes this bug.

Do not mean to come off as a whiner, but I have probably wasted that much cash in inks and papers trying to diagnose this bug or figure out a work around.  So far, all for naught.

I haven't seen much of any recent input from DLink support on the Shareport Forum.....

And I found out tonite, its not just photos that partially print....It seems to be any sort of semi-complicated (Complexity and/or Size) output to the printer.
