Since I've already created a topic about how we need a more generic multimodel feature based forum http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=12890.0 I'll move on.

I personally own, among others of your products, the Dir-655.  It's a great little product and I've convinced many others to grab it as well.  What I would like to know is if you have a USB 3.0 model of your extreme N line coming out?

If so, when?

If so; I believe USB 3.0 is supposed to have enough power to power an external 3.5" Hdd. Will yours do this or will it require an additional power source?

Umm that's the last of my "If so's" for now.

I do appreciate the USB 2.0 on the DIR-655 but it's just a tad slow as a true network storage solution.  I also really hate excess wiring so I'm stuck using external 2.5" Hdd's as a USB powered solution.

Trade mags and the like say USB 3.0 full scale support in the market is still some time away, altho obviously there are some early adopters marketing new hardware using USB 3.0; I know my new motherboard has two USB 3.0 ports, so if it is all the hype purports it to be...bring it on !!

Hopefully we won't see some of the same "oopsies" that early USB 1.X (going back some years now) releases saw in that some devices would work and some would work on the other guy's USB but not yours...even tho they all claimed USB certification at that time.....  Later releases were better standardized, thankfully....

Um, I'm not up on what the trade mags say but the fact of the matter is that when you have transfer rates and power increases like what are available on USB 3.0 you can bet once people get thier hands on it they won't let go.  There's not a wire in or out of your computer that couldn't be used or even potentially benifit from being swapped to usb 3.  Of course that isn't counting the power cable.  I think it may still be a little too much juice for USB 

Anyway, if you take a look at what is being standardized under USB 3.0 you can see exactly what their intentions were.  It's very simple actually.  Nothing revolutionary mearly evolutionary.

Get rid of bandwidth issues - check
More power for powering and or charging devices - check
Make cable capable of replacing all pc cables (ie HDMI, SATA, Cat5, USB 2.0)- check.
Backwords compatibility - check

Personally I would be surprised if it took longer than the end of the year for there to be a notable percentage of USB 3.0 devices entering the market.  Backwords compatibility will make it easy for MP3 players to waste time getting to it, but anyone that has seen thier friend transfer thier music collection onto a 4Gb+ USB 3.0 Mp3 player will immediatly want to swap thiers out.  And seriously, who the hell wants to wait 45 min to fill a 16Gb usb stick.  Um, a couple minutes - yes please.

These are just the first most obvious things to hit the market but video recorders, editors and camera's will want nothing to do with USB 2.0 with 3.0 out there.  Full streaming raw 1080p with 7.1 audio via usb, again, yes please.

Honestly, how long do you think it will take.  The wave of motherboards hit this summer with a stream of devices soon to follow.  If the HDTV and HDReciever market don't soon follow I'd be shocked.  I mean how else are you going to transfer those 3D home videos from your new 3D camcorder.

The fastest router/NAS share device I've read so far can only do 11.4 MB/s, and that's not a DLink.  Until the transfer rates are vastly improved, USB 3.0 would just be marketing hype.
