Speed Drops
« on: May 10, 2010, 03:09:54 PM »

Hi, so I have the dgl-4500 with 1.22NA and at random times during the day, usually around night time, the router starts dropping speed. It goes from 130mbps to 65mbps. Normally 65mbps should be enough considering my internet down connection is only 30mbps, but my internet begins to be extremely slow. When I do a speed test i get barely 1mbps. I have no idea why this is happening.

does this happen when directly connected to the router? The router does not effect speeds nor should it. I only should direct traffic to where it needs to go. Are you on wired? I wish I had 130Mb down. I'm only at 10Mb and I love it. I would look over the Gaming and Gamefuel sticky and try some of the options listed there. You don't have to use any of the gaming however other options could be used and work well. I used the same options on my 4500. The sticky is at the top of the forum page.

Ok, i'll look over those stickes, and no, I am not connected directly, I am using wifi.

Btw i meant that the router speed was 130mbps down, not the actual internet connection. Basically whenever i notice that my router says the speed drops from 130 to like for example 65, my actual internet connection drops from 30mbps to around 2 or 3.

If you want I can send you files that will allow you to go back to 1.15 and this problem goes away. I had the same problem very bad on wireless.

Since you are on WiFi, what modes are you using? Mixed or single? I have noticed that trying single modes like G or N can help troubleshoot some issues. I recommend single modes if possible unless you have multiple devices that need different modes. Then i would try B and G only or G and N and check. G works the best. N is good too at 2.4Ghz. 5Ghz is will work the best if there is a line of sight between the 4500 and the connecting device. The higher the frequency, the harder for the signal to penetrate obstructions sometimes. I use N mode only on my Mac Book Pro at 5Ghz since it's the only device capable. I have a airport extreme handling b and g modes.

How old is this 4500?

Let us know how this goes.
