DIR655 with 1.11, upgrade to 1.34NA?
« on: July 15, 2010, 02:30:50 PM »

I have a 2 year old DIR655 A3 revision I think with FW 1.11.  It has been running flawless ever since I got it.  The only time I've had a problem is when power went out due to storms.  Other than that no other reboots.  It does have the weird deauthentication issue with two of my wireless clients.  The Wii and now a Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH running DD-WRT in client bridge mode.  It doesn't affect the operation of those as it they always work and connect.  No drops, just a bunch of deauthentication and reconnection messages in the log.

I have our blu-ray player hooked to the Buffalo client bridge with Cat 5E cable and it streams HD netflix just fine.  The bridge is N set to N only and the DIR655 is set in NG for the Wii and a few other G devices we have.  It connects at 300 Mbps as do our N laptops.  They stay that way even when a 54G device connects.

NOW, should I upgrade to 1.34NA?  I remember I upgraded once to 1.21 but went back because they wouldn't connect at 300 Mbps anymore.  This is because they removed the 40 Mhz channel option for the stupid "friendly neighbor."  Also had wireless drops.

so, have held off on upgrading and am out of the loop.  Would an upgrade to 1.34NA give me 300 Mbps?  Is the Auto 20/40 Mhz option there?  An upgrade may fix the deauthentication issues.  But I'm going to stay with 1.11 if I can't get 300 Mbps.

Please advise, Thanks!

Hi,

While I have 1.34 up and pretty stable.... I have this ringing in my ear saying...If it ain't broke.....

If you do decide to move to 1.34, do sort thru the slightly older posts about downgrading back using the "russian" firmware....just in case you have stability issues after the upgrade....you'll have a general path back to 1.11

Thanks Sammydad...i have the same reservations.  If it's not broke....

Can you confirm if you are able to connect at 300 Mbps?  If you do have N devices.

Hi,

I have almost ALL (wireless that is) .11N devices, and the only .11N issue I have is  a couple oddball PCMCIA adapters only connect at 270, which is still plenty fast in real world...

If you follow the stickie intructions for 300 Mbps, you should be good to go...some folks have had issues with some earlier Intel wireless cards not connecting properly and only hit 150 Mbps....

Well my curiosity got the better of me and I flashed it.  So far so good!  Only been a few hours so far.  But I have noticed the deauthentication issues are gone.  N devices connect at 300 Mbps.  Only weird thing is it seems the wireless signal is not as strong (1.11 = 100%, 1.34NA = 80-90 with occaisonal 100).  And the rate fluctuates more when downloading.

Will see how it goes next few days and report back.

it is possible that your rate indicator under 1.11 was wrong and the 1.34 is more accurate....but I never get agrrement between what windows says and what the DIR reports....
