How I (did not) get Shareport with OS X 10.6.3 working.
« on: May 24, 2010, 03:20:44 AM »

Hi all, just thought I would give this tip.

I have a Macbook Pro 4,1 with Snow Leopard 10.6.3 10D578.
My router is a DIR-655 Version A3 with firmware 1.31EU,  2010/01/14
And I have a Multifunction Printer Epson Stylus DX-4450 connected to the router.

I was trying to get Shareport working on my Mac, and found Shareport 3.0R1 on the American download page for my Router.
However, this one was not able to find any devices connected, so I went to this forum and found some different solutions, one of them was a non D-link version posted by TheHoff http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=5898.0
I removed the D-link version, and tried to install this version, I got a warning that it was an older version, but it still installed, after reboot, It was still not able to see the USB devices.

Some more searching on the forum led me to a message by marhov http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=7915.msg75640#msg75640

So I removed the Silex version and installed the version from the dmg, no warning about old version it just installed and asked me to reboot, after reboot the software started automatically, but crashed.
I tried then to start it manually, and now I could see my printer, and was able to connect and print.

This is version 1.0.

Just thought I would let you know in case you can't get it to work.

-edit-
It seems I was too fast on claiming it is working.
It printed the Test page fine, but when I tried to print a PDF file, the print utility reports communication problems.
I tried to install it in a Windows XP Parallels machine, this one can not find it either.
So I tried my Work PC with 64bit Windows 7, this one also can not detect any USB devices.

So the only software that can even detect the printer is version 1.0, but is not usable, great stuff.

Isn't the Europe firmware different and uses a totally different SharePort than the US? Does it support Mac in EU firmware?
