unable to connect to wireless
« on: May 25, 2010, 06:08:48 PM »

I cant seem to connect to the internet on the wireless side (it just hangs and doesn't get an IP)  but I can on the wired side what could be the problem. I called tech support and they couldn't help. FYI computers running on win 7 and XP. Modem SB 6120. Let me know if you need any more info.

Have you set the routers' SSID, WEP/WPA[2] protection, b/g/n same on clients? Can you 'see' router in site survey on clients?

You may be the victim of the  "wireless restart".

I recently put a Windows 7 machine (hardwired) on my network. Windows 7 uses IPv6 which confuses the router and causes it to restart the wireless connections often - thus the dropped connections seen on the wireless. The evidence of the wireless restarts is seen in the router log file.

I turned off IPv6 on Windows 7 and the problem seems to be gone.

Try turning off IPv6 on the Windows 7 machine and see if the XP machine's problem goes away.

It was IPv6 that was whacking my router and affecting everyone else.

On the XP machine do I just need to try connecting again or do I need to reset something?

I tried that thing with no luck! any other guesses? Should I reset the router and start from scratch?
