Tweaking my settings/port forwarding question.
« on: June 10, 2010, 03:26:39 PM »

So I have a lot of what is from FuzzyNut's sticky post applied to the router and still I am finding little tweaks that either I have over read or just stumbled accros...the latest one is that I was using a WEP key and finally noticed that doing that only ran in 11g and not 11n.  Now I am learning about port forwarding and have been watching all the posting here on this topic as of late.  My question is since I have 2 xbox 360's running, one wireless and the other wired, how do I get them both to use the ports for xbox live since it makes a conflicting IP error or something like that.  Also, does using PF help with connection speeds?  Thanks.

I believe you can only set up one PF for a device, either game console or PC. Thus why I found and reported in my sticky that you can use Game Fuel to setup multiple gaming consoles. This seems to process the ports needed for gaming and multiple consoles. I have recently added a 2nd xbox to my house and use the same Game Fuel setup for each and both worth well. I guess you could PF one of them however really think that this could be either over kill or defeats the purpose of Game Fuel wish handles more than one device. The only thing i have loaded in Gaming for PF is my PC which has Halo 1 and 2 for PC loaded. I would be interested if you have had a better experience or find other settings to work better. Let us know.

Thats what I figured on the PF...I bought the Motorola SB6120, or whatever the number is, and it seems to work fine with the 4500.  I still feel that I could get the 4500 to run faster which is why I am always on here.  Finding out about the WEP key issue seemed to help her(wireless) 360, but mine is wired so I am not sure about that.  Have you found out anything new on settings?  Thanks.

well I'm jealous. Wish my ISP would support that modem. I can't wait. So your using WEP instead of WPA/2? Both mine are wired here. I did ready that some other routers are setting there MTUs down to 1300 for gaming consoles. I haven't had a chance to try this yet. Everything in the sticky is what I've found to work well so far. Not sure what else we can do to make these things go any faster. I was reading this today:

http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-reviews/30250-d-link-dual-band-80211n-for-the-impatient-dgl-4500-reviewed

Other than what you got going, you should be screamin and playing well on it. There will still be lag and crap seen comming from XBL, always see that here and there. Not much we can do with that I think. I'm also running CAT 6 on everything.
