DIR-615 H/W Ver A1 problems
« on: February 27, 2008, 12:05:30 PM »

Sorry, I'm an amateur at this, so I don't understand 90% of the things I've tried reading on this forum to find a fix for my problem. I talked to technical support today on the phone and have a case number, but they suggested I download the Firmware 1.10. I tried, but my Vista operating system doesn't recognize a .bin file extension. I have it downloaded to my desktop, but can't open it.

The router has to be powercycled every morning before it will connect to the Internet.

Thanks!

Since you have already downloaded the firmware from our support site. You would then need to upload that file to the router, you dont need to open the file (.bin).

-Log into the router's GUI (192.168.0.1 by default)
-Go to TOOLS>FIRMWARE
-Click BROWSE and select the .bin file (firmware) you saved on your desktop
-Click UPLOAD or SAVE SETTINGS
This will upgrade your firmware.

I can't get the web browser to open the IP address. When I did a ipconfig, my default gateway was a different address, so I tried that too. Then I turned off my firewall, and tried both again. Nothing. All I get is a Google search return of the IP address.

Other suggestions?

So when you did a IPCONFIG your gateway address is different, do you know if you are able to ping that IP address, you should since your connected to it. However you are unable to be prompted for the login,  strange.  I would possibly try to reset the router and attempt to login through it's default settings. I would then load the FW before applying your normal settings back on.

First, make sure your computer is connected directly to the LAN port(1-4any) of the router. Your modem should be connected to the WAN port on the router. Next, Make sure your computer is set to obtain an IP address automatically; go to control panel-Network connections-right click on the LAN connection and select Properties from the menu. Select TCP/IP and click on properties. Make sure your computer is set to obtain an IP address automatically.  Lastly, open your browser and type the router IP address(192.168.0.1) on the address bar and press enter.

I was having problems with a new DIR-615, even after upgrading to the latest firmware.  The solution was to reset the device to it's factory default settings with the modem disconnected.  I then powered off both the modem and router.  Powered on the modem first (let it sit for 2 min), then powered on the router (again 2 min.) I then connected my PC and the WAN settings were fine.  It's been fine ever since.
