To the DLINK crew. What is happening???
« on: May 29, 2010, 01:50:35 PM »

What is happening with the development with the firmware for the DIR-855?
Almost ever since I first bought this there has been huge problems with the wireless connectivity and not even in the latest 1.22 these issues has been fixed.

We can all read about the problems with the wireless in hundreds in this forum and still it isn't fixed properly.

This is one of the most expensive in the DLINK portfolio for the advanced SOHO and I was expecting alot more out of it!

Is the issues with the wireless going to be fixed in the near future or should I start looking for other more stable products from other brands?
As it is now I can not recommend DLINK to my customers or friends. Please prove me wrong!

Sincerely and wishing for a good solution,
Niclas

D-Link won't reply because there are no moderators or people from D-Link at this website...

There is a "new" EU firmware (1.21EUB01), 18 januari 2010. It is working great for all the A1 / A2 models!
No downgrade possible, but not neccesary too. So, I don't know why you mess with 1.22NA in Sweden?

ftp://ftp.dlink.se/Products/dir-products/dir-855/drivers_firmware/DIR855A2_FW121EUB01Beta01.zip

When you allready f***ed up your European model with NA firmware you can recover it and reinstall the 1.21B01 EU firmware after:
ftp://ftp.dlink.de/dir/dir-855/driver_software/DIR-855_fw_reva_122NAb05_RecoveryFromNA-Firmware.zip

I own an A2 version. No stability problems at all.
Maybe the people who have these problems did "play" too much with the default settings of the router?

Try to reset your router and only install/change your wireless and security settings. Maybe the DHCP reservation and network filter (MAC acces) too. Do not mess with those settings you're not sure about.

For best performance: Use WPA personal, WPA2 only with AES. Also 40 Mhz only when your wireless adaptor can handle 40 MHz. Disable the 2.4GHz band when you are not using it. Use the N network only when you are not using G or B.

I was on 1.22NA and having heaps of problems.

Main issue was loosing internet connection of wireless connections. It was getting so bad that I changes internet network providers - which actually made things worse. I was loosing internet connections after about 10 minutes which required a reboot of the dir855 and sometimes the cable modem as well. The thing I can't understand was that a QNAP NAS hard wired into the router kept connection up without any issues. I could still connect to the NAS but not the internet.

Problem was also worse on some PC's than others. Also annoyingly - I could hold a VPN connection to work on my work laptop for hours but the home PC's kept loosing internet access. Tried all settings under the sun to fix this to no avail.

I then tried the recover firmware and download 1.21EU beta as per JPF12 post below. After a bit of tinkering to get some settings back the router has remained stable for 1/2 a day now. No loosing internet connection, no reboots. Stability!  :)

That only leave my 5 GHz mode as flaky with poor signal strength and frequent drop-outs compared to the 2.4 mode. Well at least I'm working ok again.

Many thanks for the post - I was about to ditch the router and buy a Linksys or Apple one instead.

Just to set the record straight you can flash all the way up to firmware 1.22NA and still go back to version 1.11EU if you want too. The recovery firmware is available here (tested on Hardware version A2):

http://dlinkedrouter.org/firmware/recovery-firmware/

I also had to send my 855 in for an RMA because the unit was damaged (Heat) and i was sent a replacement a week later. If you can pinpoint the problem and take it up with D-link support they should be able to help you out.
