What else do I need to set up?
« on: July 26, 2010, 10:10:04 AM »

Ok, I got everything hooked up and I am able to get on to the internet, and able to get online with PS3. I have not changed anything in the settings. My download and upload speeds seam to be slow. What else do I need to go and set up to get this thing running the best? Happy so far,now just need to tweak this thing. Thanks for the help.

And, does it "seem slow" when its the only thing running on the network?  Is it noticably slower than when the PS3 is plugged right into the modem?

I have this wired to my desktop. I have Verizon DSL. I am never using computer and PS3 at the same time. PS3 is in the basement. This is when it is running on the network. Would also like to hook printer to this. That would also be wired, what would I need to do for that?

If your using DSL, check to see if your DSL modem has an internal router, if so, have the ISP bridge it or put it into transparent mode. This will make sure the 4500 is doing all the NATg and using the features. There can be connection issues seen with DSL routers in the mix. Bridging resolves this issue.

Ok, I have the Westell 6100G modem from Verizon. There is no internal router. I am happy that I got everything up and running, but I know that this should be much better

what are you speeds using a wired PC direct to the DSL modem, then with the 4500 in line?

Ok, I just ran a speedtest. Results are just about the same with the router and then just with the modem. There must be something going on with my DSL service. Here is what I got.
Just modem: 246 mbps download and 0.72 mbps upload
DGL-4500: 254 mbps download and 0.66 mbps upload

Just changed out the filters on all the phone lines. That fixed the problem. Ran the speed test again, things are much faster. Have no idea what the hell happened there. Just waiting for FIOS to be available here in my area, then changing over. Thanks for all of the help.

Good to hear it's running well and you found the issue. Those darn filters LOL. Have a good week.
