Backup & Media Server Problems (using with PS3)
« on: March 21, 2010, 03:52:14 PM »

Hello All,

I have several questions so I'll split them up separately by number.  First, here is my setup:
 - DNS 321 w/ (2) 1TB Seagate Barracuda HDs set up in standard mode. My idea was to use one drive and
use the other to backup the first using the backup utility.
 - I use Volume 1 as my primary storage and Volume 2 as the backup
 - I have firmware 1.03
 - My PS3 software is 3.15 (most up to date as of 3/21/10)
 - My router is a Netgear WNRD3700 with current firmware

Ok, so on to my questions...

1) BACKUP - I've scheduled a weekly backup of my Volume 1 to my Volume 2 using the included software.
It's set in Incremental mode.  My problem is that it seems that there is only one folder of backup.  So if anything is changed in my Volume 1 it just makes a change to that file in the single "level" of backup.  In short, my backup is only as recent as 1 week old.  Files that change get wiped over.  What I expected was there to be one (1) full image of the data and then additional folders from each backup date showing any files that changed.  Is this possible with the included software?

2) MEDIA SEVER FOR PS3 - When I access the DNS from my PS3 I only "see" one media server.  How can I ensure that the PS3 is looking only at my Volume 1 (my primary drive)?

3) MEDIA SEVER FOR PS3 pt. 2:  In the past when I drag and drop a video file to the DNS sometimes I can see it right away on the PS3.  Sometimes it may take several days to see the file.  When it takes several days, I may manually refresh the UPnP server from the DNS GUI.  My problem now is that I think it is refreshing both drives....this process takes over 2 days (48hrs+)  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

I appretiate any assistance that is given.

Regards,
Robert

After my LONG system (2+ days) I'm now able to see both volumes on my PS3.  So I now have an answer to question #2. Any advice on my other questions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
