I need Lan to Lan Connection!
« on: August 09, 2010, 08:34:06 AM »

My setup is currently: Modem -> Linksys wired router -> (internet port) DIR-615 -> a few computers. The only reason I am asking a question is because I'm forwarding ports from the Linksys to the DIR-615, and then to the computer. But anytime the Linksys is reset, the DIR-615's IP address is reset/changed, so the port forwarding rules of the Linksys are incorrect (forwarding ports to the wrong IP).

I contacted Linksys about this to try to set a DHCP reservation for the MAC of the DIR-615, but the model I have can't do that.

So Linksys provided me a link for solving this problem with Lan-to-Lan connection between the routers (if they were both Linksys), given by this link: http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=4529&p_created=1165447386&p_sid=wvli-Z6k&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9MjksMjkmcF9wcm9kcz0wJnBfY2F0cz0xNzIxLDE3MjMmcF9wdj0mcF9jdj0yLjE3MjMmcF9zY2ZfNj0xJnBfcGFnZT0xJnBfc2VhcmNoX3RleHQ9Y2FzY2FkaW5n&p_li=&p_topview=1

I obviously do not have two Linksys routers, but I would like to accomplish this. You can look at the link, but it basically says to connect the DIR-615 by one of its numbered ports (not the Internet port like I currently have). But then it says I need to change the setting from "Working Mode" from "Gateway' to "Router" after disabling the "Enable DHCP Server". I understand how to disable the "Enabled DHCP Server" for the DIR-615, but is there anything I need to do about changing the "Working Mode"? Is there such a setting for the DIR-615 or is it automatic? I couldn't find anything so I didn't know what to do.

If anyone can assist me or give me a different solution, that would be great. I just need to setup the DIR-615 as an extension LAN basically (almost like a switch) so that I can forward ports to the computer connected to the DIR-615. Even if there is a way to set the IP Address of the DIR-615 in the configuration of the DIR-615, that would be perfect (as long as it's in the range of the Linksys IPs). Any help is appreciated!
