Disconnects when using IRC/SSH over PPTP

Hello everyone.

I'm experiencing repeated disconnects when using IRC and/or SSH terminal sessions. Basically the connections are reset abruptly every 10 to 15 minutes. Instant messengers (ICQ/Jabber) are unaffected, as well as the general internet experience, neither is the PPTP link dropped.

Tried using DD-WRT, ended up with constant link failures and packet loss in the range of 40 to 50 percent.

Found a workaround by using the keepalive feature of my SSH client, but still would welcome any input on the issue.
