Using Shareport across different ip subnet
« on: September 16, 2010, 02:45:03 PM »

Hello,

So far I'm very impressed with v3.0. I am currently trying to get my VNC server to connect to my DGL-4500 shareport USB, which is under a different ip table.

DGL-4500 is 192.168.0.x
and VNC computer is under a linksys WRT54G running dd-wrt with the ip of 192.168.1.x

I have the shareport utility setup with the broadcast ip of 192.168.0.1, and I can see the usb hard drive in the utility, but when i try to connect to it, it's take forever with the connecting dialog going, and then stops and just shows the device being available.

I have the networks pretty locked down, and so it could possibly be that ports need to be forwarded, but i don't know which on the shareport app uses.

Edit: let me add a little more information:

My network looks like this:

T-Com (ISP)
:
: Place Holder Network
:
D-Link DGL-4500
:
: Family network
:
Linksys WRT54G dd-wrt
:
: VNC Server network (this is the computer I'm trying to setup for use with Shareport)

I read about the following ports being added to the firewall exception,

TCP IN 19540
TCP OUT 19540
UDP IN 19540
UDP OUT 19540

and I need to add them to the routers as port rules.

It's just interesting as broadcast ips end with 255, and that doesn't work, I see nothing using that. But if I use the actual D-link routers IP I see everything just can't make a connection.

Any help would be appreciated.

Edit #2: Well I've added all of the port rules, and still no dice. Not really sure what else I can do.

Thanks!!

Really, you just had to spam my thread?

Back on topic here is some updates.

I've added the port forwarding rules, nothing. Still can see everything but connecting does not complete.

So I decided I would see what would happen if I just put the VNC comp on the same network as the Dlink, still the same problem.

Any ideas? I've checked the firewall exception for shareport, it's there. Am I missing something?

I'm going to try using Wireshark in a little bit to see if the packets are even getting to the computer.

No one else has a problem like this?
