Just installed my DNS-321, and have mapped it to a drive on my PC using no advanced users or groups.  I can write and read files to the DNS-321 drive fine from Windows Explorer.  Problem is that the Back Up programs in Windows 7 don't see the drive as an target to which to back up (only by DVD shows up).  Any special tricks to get this to work?  Thanks in advance.

which version of win7? Some versions may not support backups to remote FS. Others may only do certain types of backup remotely.

FWIW, I've never even looked at the backup programs for any version of Windows.  I use 3rd party software, and I've never had any issue accessing either the DNS-321 or the DNS-323 from any version of Windows.

Beyond Compare
Cobian Backup 9.x

All of these have no problem with the NAS drives.

I am running Win 7 on a test machine and I can see network targets through Win7 backup. First time using it however I simply clicked start, typed in backup, clicked, Back up my computer.

Next I clicked configure backup (since I had never done it), once that opened up I saw my C drive and my DVD Rom. There is a button int he lower right hand side just below the list box with HDD/Dvd-rom that says "Save on a network". Click that button, click browse and find your DNS-321. If you can not find it through that list try typing the address manually like, \\IP_ADdress_321\Volume_1

Ditto here.  I just fired it up, and I've never even seen it before!

I told it I wanted to backup to a network drive, and all the machines showed up, including the DNS-321 and DNS-323.  I navigated to some folders in the DNS-323 successfully, then I aborted, since I don't really want to use this program.

I see no place where you can insert the location that isn't already listed, and my NAS is not listed.

Note that the Windows 7 backup does NOT do network drives in the Home versions, only in the Pro/Enterprise/Ultimate versions.  If you're using a Home version, no network backups using that feature.
