Network Filter reverting to older settings
« on: August 14, 2010, 06:40:35 AM »

Hi all, I'm having a weird problem.

I have my Network filter set to Mac filtering ON, which works, but it keeps resetting itself to an older list o entries every few hours.

Originally, I had three machines entered on the list to be allowed access: my laptop, my brother's laptop, and a wireless printer.

I later returned the wireless printer, and replaced its entry with my iPhone.

Everything would run smoothly, and then a few hours later, my iPhone would stop connecting to the wireless network. I checked my Network Filter, and its entry was replaced with my old printer's MAC address! For the past week, I have had to change my Network Filter at least once a day.

Has anyone else seen this problem before? Any ideas what's causing it and how to fix it?

Thanks!

Sounds like it may be rebooting and putting old information back in. I would do a Factory Reset and then manually enter in your Router's settings.  Then save the config file to your computer.

Nope, didn't work. :(

Man, I wish I knew what this thing is doing to cause this...

I think the question is how to solve it  ;)

Have you tried reflashing the firmware? (did you upgrade recently?) It looks like a bad flash.

I reflashed the router with version 1.34. It seemed ok for the rest of the day, but the next morning, the settings had reverted themselves back :(.

Just checking but I assume you save & reboot after entering new data?

I do save th settings, but I don't think I've been rebooting afterwards. I'll give that a shot a see how things go.

Ha, I found out what the problem was: Network Magic. It was an application installed with my previous router, and that was the thing overwriting all my setting with my D-Link router. Now that that's been uninstalled, I haven't had any problems keeping my settings.

Thanks for helping me out, EddieZ an davevt31!

Reminds me to say it again: all you router-people, get rid of this software. It messes with your devices. Read a few wikis and you will be able to manage all LAN configuration yourself.
