All right, first of all, I am not good with computers. I wish I were, but I’m not. I spend a lot of time in front of it but mainly to paint or watch movies or play games, not fiddling with settings and installing complicated things.
A long while back, I had a little vent server running, just for me and my friends and it’s always been working great. I bought the DIR-615 router, however, because I’ve purchased an Xbox 360 and wanted wireless so I could connect it to Live, and the setting up of the router was fairly easy to be honest and everything’s been working great, but I can’t even connect to my own vent server anymore. It’s like it’s not even there.
After many hours of trawling the internet for a solution I’m starting to realise that I’m just plain not knowledgeable to have any clue of what people are saying. Internal and external IPs and all that jazz, when it used to be that I only had the one IP that my provider had given me. I get that I need to use port forwarding, but even when I did open the 3784 port, it still won’t work. I can’t imagine that my Eset firewall is the problem because it’s worked perfectly so far with vent and there are exceptions in it to allow it to run through. Mind you, I can still use the client to connect to other people’s servers, just not my own.
So please, pretty please, I’m looking for someone that can translate this mess to stupid-speak for me. Well, I’m not stupid, just never needed to worry about these things before and now I don’t know what to do.
