Wireless connection set-up
« on: August 24, 2010, 03:53:23 PM »

I've recently had Virgin Media installed and trying to set-up a wireless connection is proving to be a ball ache.

This is what I'm running:
 -Toshiba A60 laptop
 -Windows XP Home SP3
-Netgear WG511 v2 54Mb Wireless PC Card adaptor
 -DIR-615, H/W verD4, F/W ver 1.00VG
 -Ambit  modem

I managed at first to get a connection but after turning the latop off and then starting next day I cannot get the wireless to connect. I've tried the different security methods but no joy. So I decide it would be better to have kit from the same manufacturer, should be no (or less, at least) compatability issues. I am now waiting for delivery of a DWA-140 USB adaptor and a DWA-645 PC Card adaptor. I'd appreciate it if anyone could give me any recommendations on which would be the better adaptor to use, and also any particular cofigurations to make during installation/set-up. Obviously I would like to obtain the highest speeds I can get with the above kit. I'm not a total thicko but must admit this wireless stuff is new and pretty confusing to me.

Hoping someone out there can help, cheers

Make sure you set the wireless security to WPA2-AES

Thanks !!!clarkkent, done!

Both adaptors arrived this morning, the DWA-140 is now up and running, so far flawlessly, but trying to install the DWA-645 was a pig, couldn't get it to connect so that will be returned. I'm getting excellent reception and much better speed compared to my original wireless-g so I'm very happy. Give it a couple of days and I'll see how it goes; I've already seen a plethora of bad reviews and posts with people having loads of problems with D-Link products so I'll keep my fingers crossed I don't become another victim.
