MAC can't print to print server? (but PCs on the same network can)

Recently installed a DNS-323 on my home network.
Router ports are full, so had to move my Brother HL-4040cn network printer to the DNS-323 USB print server.
Using the DNS-323s IP address, I manually configured the printers on the XP machines, and they are able to print.
I did likewise with the MAC but it isn't able to print. (although it printed fine when the printer was on the network.)

DNS-323: Firmware: 1.08
OS:         MAC OS 10.6.4 (latest OS version I believe)
Driver:     Brother HL-4040CN series CUPS (included with OS)

Any tips or suggestions on how I can get this to work?

Can the Mac computer print when the printer is directly connected to it?
Try configuring LPD on Mac.

Stumbled upon a solution!

Didn't try connecting the hl-4040 directly to the MAC, since it worked fine as a network printer.
And the first thing I tried was configuring LPD (on the MAC) as I did on the PC. Didn't work on the MAC.

DLink tech support said I needed to install SharePort to "find" the printer.
I installed it on both the PC and MAC and neither found the printer. ???

After hours of searching/googling and struggling, I finally stumbled upon the solution.  

Clicked on Add Printer/Windows, and saw "NAS" listed. (It's the workgroup name I assigned my dns-323)
Clicked on NAS and then "dns-323" was listed, (It's the device name I assigned my dns-323)
Clicked on dns-323 and a popup window asked me to login.
(went back onto my PC and created a user login on the dns-323)
Logged in (check the box "Remember this password in my keychain")
Finished adding a printer driver and it worked! ::)
