Hi all. I have a quick question. I've just had a few conversations with tech support and I'll preface by saying that they have already given me a RMA number, but I want to see if anyone knows of a fix for this before I go through the hassle of sending it back.
I've been running a DNS-321 for basic Raid file storage for about 2 years without a problem. When I had trouble formatting a drive recently, I read online that updating the firmware can fix the problem (BTW it was that the device was freezing at 94% when formatting). So I tried v1.03 which, for some reason the device wouldn't accept. So then I tried v1.02. Somewhere during the update process, the DNS-321 dropped it's network connection. Since then it won't power down unless I unplug it and the only thing that happens when I plug it in is that the power LED flashes and the network LED is solid. I can't ping the device, can't find it in Easy Search. They had me try the reset button which didn't do anything. It appears to have been bricked.
Again, I have an RMA for it, but just wondered if anyone has some brilliant fix so I don't have to be without the device for however long it takes to get it back. Also, does anyone know if these units use hardware encryption? I didn't see anything about it in the manual and wouldn't have even thought about it if it weren't for the MyBook that recently gave me a scare (I will never buy another one of those).
Final note: I had a great experience with customer service. I was NEVER on hold and they were super helpful.
Thanks for any input you may be able to provide.
