Ok, I'm on my second 655.  I bought the first one new from meritline.com for around $79 and I thought everything was ok until I noticed that my main computer was having connection issues.  I have XP Home on my desktop and periodically a windows alert pops up telling me that the network cable is unplugged.  My motherboard has an onboard gigabit adapter and I have used it with netgear and dlink gigabit switches with no problems of this nature.  Long story short, I RMA'd the first 655 and just received the second brand new one from meritline.com and it has the same connection problem.  Both of them have also exhibited the same wireless problem as well.  The wireless signal goes away out of the blue and then within a minute it will come back up and my new laptop with Windows 7 reconnects to it as soon as the signal comes back.  It appears that once the network cable alert starts to occur it becomes more of a regular thing.

I updated the firmware on the first one and when I initially contacted Dlink support they actually asked me why would I want to update the firmware.  I didn't even reply after that and RMA'd through meritline.  I thought these 655's were supposed to be a good router.  I never had problems like this with my previous Linksys routers.

Gah... after weeks of prefect operation...my viop again died out of the blue.. so a reboot brought it back. Ah well I suppose as long as it does not go back to the dreaded twice daily reboots I can live with it...regardless this is my last Dlink product.

Mine seems to drop it's internet connection every night around 12-1 AM. It's usually a simple DHCP release/renew to restore it, at most a power cycle. But I'm really disappointed that it's happening at all. I have an A4 which is telling me 1.32NA is the most recent firmware.

It won't let me upload 1.34NA. "The uploaded firmware file may not be correct. You may have uploaded a file that is not intended for this device, or the uploaded file may be corrupted"

How sad, I used to tinker with my 655 all the time... unplug, plug back in... tweak settings, change wireless adapters, change adapter settings, on and on... then I bit the bullet and upgraded to 1.34NA after hearing people were having success... at that point one of my wnda3100 adapters would drop every so often; would not allow large file transfers without disconnecting... it was even worse than before... so, I got a refurb wndr3300 and it does everything faster, better and with no stability problems at all.  Better range, better voip, no drops, transfered 56GB to my backup server, no problems...

The things I miss are Guest Mode and of course 2.4GHz N 300 is not available, only 5GHz.  the DIR-655 is a bit more configurable; QOS is more flexible, but who cares, the 655 just doesn't work as good, and is more expensive.

Now, if I could figure out a way to connect a second router to my wndr3300 to emulate Guest Mode with 2.4GHz G and N wireless only, with a separate SSID that could access the internet but keep Guest machines from gaining access to the shared files in my computers connected to the wndr3300 I'd be in HOG HEAVEN.
