Autorebuild?
« on: October 30, 2010, 05:30:24 AM »

Hi all, I am asking this just incase one day I may need this knowledge  :)

I have 2 x 500GB Raid-1 Firmware 1.08 DNS-323 and selected autorebuild

If one day my email alert me that one of the drive has fail, am i support to:

1) Log in to check left or right drive fail
2) Remove the faulty drive
3) Put in a replacement of 500GB or greater
4) It will do the job and mirroring it back to the new drive?

Please advice.

Thanks.

Well, personally, I'd select manual rebuild and just invoke the rebuild on my schedule, not the NAS box's idea of when it should happen. :)

Thanks for reply, so you mean autorebuild is not advisable?

The advantage of the autorebuild is if you are not around to initiate it, it will happen automatically. But, if I recall correctly, it only happens on a restart anyway.

As mentioned, it is usually better to set it to manual so that you can see what is going on before starting the rebuild. Often it works if the errors are minor, but more than likely at some point the drive will have to be replaced.

Not a big deal one way or the other as you can always set it back to manual and reboot the NAS if you need to.
