USB and power down question
« on: October 08, 2010, 04:44:51 AM »

I just purchased my DIR 825, and after read through and support search, cannot find the answer to this question. I was wondering if anyone knew for certain this:

How do I shut off external hard drive plugged into share port when not in use ?

The manager for the hard drive is set to shut down, however, the router is always on. The only thing I see close is that I can reject connectivity at specific times, but that is it.

The desire to shut down the external hard drive is of course for longevity of hard drive, security as well as electricity use.

Any help would be appreciated, but it looks as if what I thought was a good idea (shareport) may still be in the infancy of designed and wanted features.

Hopefully, someone knows something I don't and can assist in my dilemma, so I don't have to omit my shareport and plug directly into my PC, so as the external hard drive does indeed shut down when I want it to.

Thank you ahead of time.

another usb issue
i gave up on the hard drive to the usb for now, until maybe an update gives more control
but, the share port manual and settings do not match up feature set and choice wise, as does not the manual for the router and actual settings adjust on the adust link / web page

i can connect with the wired pc to the printer that is now hooked to the share port, but the wireless pc that works fine otherwise, can see the printer and is available, but cannot connect and no errors of any kind. any help on this one ?

for now it really isn't a share port it is kind of greedy on sharing, and not very handy.
other than that, hopefully the router is more secure, it definitely is faster.
