HI,

Currently running DNS-323 with firmware 1.08. Even without Bittorrent running I'm seeing a great deal of incoming activity on my router (Linksys WRT160n) hitting port 6881(default Bittorrent port) I have no port forwarding on my router...moved all files from my "Completed' folder, run a virus scan on all downloaded files on the DNS-323..the only way for me to stop the activity is to delete/remove the BIttorrent add-on..is this normal?

Bittorrent is running now on the 323...I'm not downloading any torrents and have none on the system to seed and I'm seeing lots of outgoing activity...any thoughts?

Even with no active up/down loads running, other activity such as DHT updates can take place.

If you are going to complain about network activity with bittorrent you certainly shouldn't be running it, because you don't understand the nature of it.

The whole point of bittorrent is to share your system with the world!  Where do you think your downloads come from?  From the web site that you would normally download from?  What is the point in that?  The point is to off load that server and have many servers to get parts of the needed downloads.  So where do those "servers" come from?  Where are you getting all those parts from?  You are getting them from other users of bittorrent!  And when some other person puts in a request for a download of a file that you have already downloaded your machine is going to serve up pieces of that download, from your machine to their machine.

People should really understand what they are signing up to when they use a peer to peer service like bittorrent.

Hello Chriso,

 I was not 'complaining' about the activity and yes I do understand how bittorrent works - my observation was that there was still a great deal of activity without any files to seed. I felt it was higher than it should be and was merely asking if it was a normal amount. Understandable with bittorrent active and files available to be seeded - of course there should be lots of activity.
