DAP 1522 cannot access internet
« on: November 13, 2010, 05:29:05 PM »

I have a Netgear WGR614v7 router that I just set up to create a wirelss network.  Bought the DAP1522 to create a WAP near the new TV/sat box in the other room. Router setup went smooth and is functioning, got to the setup for the DAP 1522 and that appeared to go well also. Setup the in the other room and the messages I get from the TV and sat box say the home network is ok but no gateway/IP for internet access.

 Any suggestions?

I guess I need a network diagram.  Are the TV and the satellite box wired-Ethernet to the DAP1522?  If so, then the DAP1522 should be a bridge, not an access point.  Can you hook up wired-Ethernet to the DAP1522 with a desktop computer, then try to reach the internet.  If that works, the TV and satellite will work.

Let me explain the connection.   Phone line with single port dsl modem (set up as bridge) is on the southeast corner of breakfast nook behind a computer hutch, dsl modem is hardwired to a netgear wgr614 wireless router, which I have my only computer hardwired to.  I am able to get email and surf but am not sure the wireless part is actually working or set up correctly (I have nothing to test it).  Twenty five feet away in the northwest corner of the family room I have the D-Link DAP 1522 wireless bridge/access point which is hardwired only to the TV and Sat box (ports 1 and 2).  When I test or try the connect now the home network say it is ok but does not get an internet connection (gateway address) So i'm not certain that the 1522 is set up correctly or not.  To get to the http://dlinkap site to set it up I have to plug the 1522 to one of the LAN ports on the router, I cannot plug it to the computer directly as it only has one ethernet port and that is in use to get to the internet.  I hope I provided the info you needed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated .  Sue

OK, let's see. . . .  Lots of steps to go through.

You do need to enable the wireless on your Netgear router.  This must be set up first, because the DAP1522 is going to connect your TV to the internet, via your Netgear, wirelessly.  (assuming I understand what your plan is) (assuming your TV does not have wifi).  I don't have a Netgear, so I'm not sure about the steps to take.  But in general you need to set up the SSID(name).  (for now we'll ignore WEP or WPA encryption).
Then you would log into the DAP1522 to configure it to use the same SSID.   It can be an automatic or manual setup, but a login is required to run the setup.  You should take the ethernet cable that connects your PC to the Netgear router, unplug it from the Netgear, plug it into the Dlink DAP1522, run your web browser (internet explorer, or firefox), and type in the address 192.168.0.50  (that's the DAP1522).  Click on login. Click on Setup near the top of the window, toward the left, click on Wizard all the way to the left. Click on Launch Setup Wizard.  Type in the SSID to connect.

Those are the basic steps, but I'm sure there will be more questions.  :o
