Hi all

I have been using DNS-323 for some time now. I have 2 Samsung SpinPoint T166 HD501LJ 500Gb disks installed in JBOD mode and firmware 1.03.

I have 2 problems:

1 - Network output throughput is intermitent and much slower than input

As you can see in the attached file, when copying existent files to an USB disk attached to my Vista desktop, the DNS is continuously interrupting the file transfer. (No file attached, you can find it here: http://rapidshare.com/files/95223622/DNS-323_Network_problem.jpg.html)

2 - Network hanging

Specially a little while after starting my desktop computer (using a Gigabyte 965P-DS3 motherboard, connected to DNS-323 through a D-Link Gigabit Switch DGS-1005D), the network light on the DNS-323 starts blinking continuously and doesn't stop unless I press the start button until the unit is powered off and restarted. Most of the times when this happens the switch is not able to work at all and all network trafic is interrupted (more rarely the switch hangs and I need to power it down also). The remaining of the network is not impacted.


I tried to lookup similar issues in this forum (and others) and I couldn't find anything. Does anyone can understand what is going on?

Just wanted to mention that I've been seeing these same symptoms on a network using the DGS-1005D. I'm thinking its "green" features are lowering power and "sleeping", causing the hangs and throughput issues you mention.

I'm having the same issues with the intermittent / hanging issues.  I find it incredibly frustrating.  I updated to firmware 1.09 last night, and since then, this problem has prevented me from syncing my iPod and even just doing simple file copying.  I get errors all the time.  I may revert to a previous firmware for that reason.

Intermittent hanging is not a known firmware issue - look elsewhere - if your problem is similar to the others in the thread, it might also be your network.

I hear what you're saying, and yet, this wasn't a problem before updating to 1.09.  I might revert to where I was before just to see if the same issues are still there.

Try a factory reset

I just did that right before I installed the new firmware.  Before I do anything, I do want to research the network first.  The more I think about it, fordem may be right.  It could be some sort of network conflict.

I never mentioned the word conflict - if the problem was not there prior to the upgrade start by factory resetting the unit.

I just did a factory reset and the intermittent issues are now gone.  I appreciate the help guys.  You're awesome.
