i have 2 DIR 615 routers which both stop broadcasting SSIDS.

Ive had only one connected at a time, thinking it was a bad router, but both  behave the same way. Is this a known issue or something ?

What happens is, after some time (it varies..sometimes 3hours..sometimes longer), the router stops broadcasting the ssid, and I can no longer connect any of my wireless devices to it. The hardwired connection does work (I have a server connected to it, and it appears to work).

The only settings I have changed is my SSID name, and wpa2 password. I've set up one virtual server to port forward requests to the server. Thats it. Nothing complex or anything. And both routers behave the exact same way, meaing they stop broadcasting the SSID.

Any thoughts of ways to track the problem ?

What HW version is your router?
What FW version is currently loaded?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?
Turn off QoS options.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? WEP,  WPA2? Preferred is WPA-Personal  and Cipher type to AES only if your device support this.

I'm having the same problem running the latest firmware on DIR-615.

The interesting thing is that it suddenly started to happen, I have the router for about 3 - 4 years now with not problems.

I would ask if you could try some of the suggestions in my reply and see if they work. Also can you provide some of the info to the questions to?

I also have 2 routers, and have been seeing the exact same problem. I have tried both default firmware, and have also updated to ddwrt firmware. Neither solution seem to solve the problem.

I"m going to try and do a disabled broadcast on one of my routers and see if i can at least get some systems to maintain connectivity. The problem is I have some android devices that need the ssid to be broadcast.

Refreshing the router or messing with a single entry in the wireless setting cause the ssid to be visible again. but If i let the router set it generally disappears by the next day..

Do a factory reset of ONE router. Make sure the other one is off. Set up the 1st routers wifi and SSID. Change the default SSID name from Dlink to something else, can be anything, make it someething fun. Test the router out for a while or a day or two.

You can do the same thing to the 2nd router however if your going to use both, you need to turn one of them into an AP and not a router and change the channel on the WiFi of the AP device to something other than what the host router is using. I can use the same SSID, just needs to be on a different channel.

I had this problem with a old...DIR-633? It was one of Dlink first N routers, but I forget the name. Anyway, the radio died on it after about 5 years. And before it did, the wireless would kick out once in a while, while the wired stayed strong. One thing I did was to turn off Auto scanning and lock it on channel 1, they gave it another year or so, but eventually it died. Not saying that what your problem is, just adding my input.

The main reason i enable the second router was to see if it was a general problem with the first I had the problem with my first router months before enabling the second one. So i can guarantee this is not a conflict issue between the two routers. I have 5 differnet routers around here, linksys 54g's and others. The only routers i have issues dropping ssids are the d-link 615. This is even if all other routers are turned off and only a single dlink 615 is operational.

If i hide the ssid i have been able to maintain connectivity with no problem. This really appears to be like the ssid stops broadcasting but everything else works fine.
