I'm getting a canon vixia m31 hd camcorder and trying to get my nas setup before I get it.  Basically what I want to do is store all the videos on the nas without losing any video or sound quality (I assume the best way to do this is by storing in the original format).  I've read that the sony play station 3 will stream avchd videos with no problem but I'm an xbox guy, so I'm wondering if my sony blu ray player will do the same thing?  or perhaps even my Directv HR-24 receiver?  Would this require the use of something like media tomb?  Please excuse all the questions as I'm still new to all of this and everything is developing so quickly.

Does anyone have any input on this?  It is starting to look like I"'m going to have to buy a dedicated media player.

I've been reading for a few days on this and it looks like, unless someone else can chime in with a substantive response, I'll be going with either the Boxee Box or the Netgear NTV-550

There are quite a few media streamers out there. AC Ryan Playon HD, Xtreamer, iXtreamer, realtek based or sigmatel based chipsets...

Does anyone know if the sony bdp s550 will stream it though?  it is says avchd on the front of the player just not sure if it will stream from a nas though

Your best bet would be to download the manual and take a look. A Sony forum might help.
