Slow wireless connection
« on: January 03, 2011, 12:36:52 PM »

Hi,

I have DIR-655 with firmware 2.00NA. When I try to connect to the router from my laptop using wireless connection it works very slowly. When I use LAN connection the speed is much faster. For example speed test from speedtest.net with the same server shows download speed 0.74 Mb/s for wireless connection and 7.94 Mb/s for LAN. Upload speed are practically the same for both connections (about 1.3 Mb/s).

How it can be so big difference in connections? Are there any settings that I can change to improve wirelless speed?

Thanks.

How far away are you from the router when using Wireless. What Wireless modes are you using. I presume mixed by default. Try using G mode only or mixed N and G at 2.4Ghz and see what you get. If your routers has it, turn of Short GI under Advanced Wireless.

I used mixed Wireless mode with Short GI before. Now I switched to only G mode and it works faster now. I need to watch for connection speed for a while to be sure but thank you anyway.
