Tired of managing my own backups

I bought DNS323 over a year ago and put in a 500 GB HD. During this time, two things have happened:

1. I was regularly backing up my ThinkPad to the DNS323 using Lenovo Rescue and Recovery (R&R). My laptop was stolen and now I cannot restore my data onto another computer because Lenovo R&R only wants to talk to my old ThinkPad, which was stolen. I realize this is Lenovo's fault and I'm taking it up with them.

2. I took advantage of the recent boxing day sale and I bought two 1TB HDs for $100 total with the intention of enabling RAID. This upgrade means two things: more data storage and more data security.

Now, here's what's got me thinking. Why the hell am I doing all this? In another one or two years, I'm going to have to upgrade the storage even more. What if I have problems restoring data since Lenovo and Time Machine (Mac backup software) both do funky stuff with backed up data? I'm thinking I should just return the two 1TB HDs and put the $100 toward a 2-year subscription to Mozy. With Mozy, I get unlimited storage, my data is super secure, and restoration shouldn't be a problem no matter what my configuration is.

Anyone else tired of managing their own backups? How do you backup your data? I'm a cloud fan here.

Only you can decide what would work best for you. I stream DVD and music from my NAS, and have a 40GB/month download/upload limit. Using the cloud for that isn't really feasible.
I run a 323 with a 500GB drive for apps, backups, computer images and documents and a 2TB drive for music, photos and video.
Each month I hook up a 500GB drive to the USB port and run a rsync backup of the files that matter. No point backing up over 1TB of DVD ISOs. I can rip them again if I need to.
As for backups of computers, I have a small robocopy script I run each work day at close of play. It backs up changed files and shuts down.
The need for greater capacity will always be there, 15 years ago I upgraded from 1MB RAM to 2MB :)

One thing to keep in mind even if your ISP doesn't limit your bandwidth most likely your upload speed might surprise you.  I get 2.5 Mbps download speed with my DSL, but .4 Mbps upload (measured not what is advertised by ISP).  This means sending the approximately 250 MB I upload daily takes about an 1 hour and 15 minutes.

I hear that cable limits the upload bandwidth too.  The whole idea is that bandwidth is limited and since most data flows downward they give that direction more bandwidth.

I also want to backup two computers and I don't want to leave them on all the time so I needed an offline backup that can run from the DNS-323.  I have the two computers setup so that all personal data is kept on the DNS-323, and after I have rsync'ed from one drive to another my script sends a copy of what has changed to Amazon S3.  Which for about 19 Gig of storage and about 7.5 Gig per month of uploading costs me about $3 a month.

There's also the point if you backup your data in the "cloud" you cannot be SURE the data is safe. If someone breaks into your account you won't notice it but if someone wants your data stored at home he has to come to you and break into your house.

I for myself feel safer with my data at home.
