Need help with f/w on 825 B1 - bricked?
« on: December 25, 2010, 07:31:16 AM »

Thanks for looking. Can't afford a new router and could really use help.

I tried installing a beta version (2.05WW build01 beta01) and it simply would not load.  Got the message:

Upload Failed

The uploaded firmware file may not be correct. You may have uploaded a file that is not intended for this Gateway, or the uploaded file may be corrupted.

If the uploaded file is correct, it is possible that the gateway may be too busy to properly receive it right now. In this case, please try the upload again. It is also possible that you are logged in as a "user" instead of an "admin" - only administrators can upload new firmware.

The Gateway will not be reprogrammed.

Okay fine.  Said to work for some but..  After this point I could not get the router stable and get 2.02NA reloaded after working with the various options I found such as:

  • 30/30/30
  • 10 second hold reset
  • 30 second hold reset
  • 40-45 second hold reset

Let it sit overnight and worked with it again for about a half hour and got it up and running again.  At which point I thought I'd go ahead and install 2.03NA as I read it improved the 5Ghz signal strength.  Well, the 825 took this f/w but then the problem started all over again. I didn't have 2.02NA back up and running very long so I don't know if it would have remained stable.  I thought 2.03NA was going to be stable but it continued to get worse. The WAN and LAN ports would drop off and I would only have WiFi access directly to the router only.  So I went back to trying to get 2.02NA back on for a couple hours or so again. The only option I have to re-flash the 825 was via WiFi as I cannot get any cable connection.  It does seem to take fine but and it says 2.02NA is back on but I have no LAN or WAN ports that stay up.  I occasionally see lights come on but rarely.  On a reset they all come on and go off immediately.  Also, when using a saved config file and using it seems to throw this thing into a tizzy which makes no sense.  Especially when restoring a config that was saved from a version of f/w it was setup with. But even when I try to manually config it doesn't seem to help much.

Seems something is stuck in the nvram.  Any ideas of an alternate method to clear this?
