I upgraded to the DIR-655 recently connected to ADSL through a Draytek Vigor 110 modem. The whole setup, gigabit, wireless, etc was simple and appears to work really well in general use.

However the major problem I have is that when I upload files the router constantly reboots. When I transfer even a small number of files that are larger than around 3MB (still fairly small) the router reboots after about 2 minutes, I can then try the files again and at almost identical amount of time it reboots and as my host doesn't support restarts the files never get uploaded. If I use an online uploader for the host it's ok.

So, thinking logically I tried other software (SmartFTP, CuteFTP, Filezilla) and it's the same with them all. I tried another host I use and the same problem. I contacted D-Link support and they made several suggestions over a number of emails which didn't help and now they do not respond to my emails.

They suggested:-
* Factory reset - already tried
* Latest firmware (1.11EU I'm in the UK) - already done but they wanted it done again, still no different
* In Advanced, select Firewall & DMZ, uncheck Enable SPI and under ALG uncheck the FTP - this one sounded promising but I don't have a FTP option in my router! D-Link never responded as to whether I should have an option there or not
* Change the MTU to between 1300-1350 - tried various values but no difference

I did a BitTorrent download last night and although the file wasn't that large the router continually rebooted ever 4 minutes or so. I suspect a straight download would have been fine but because it was uploading as well that probably caused the issue.

So it seems only to happen on uploads not downloads. Any suggestions? Is there beta firmware I can try (must be suitable for UK) or other settings I can change.

Interesting problem. It sounds like you covered a lot of basics. One thing that may shed some light, is there any listings in the Logs as to why this is happening? Does this occur when your connected wirelessly to the router or wired? Or, both? Also, are you able to upload files successfully when you're connected directly to your Draytek modem?

I tried an FTP upload that coincides with the 09:38:56 events. To my untrained eye I can't see anything obvious.

I'm running wired to a PC and wireless to laptop. Uploading from either system causes a reboot. I read that wireless might be the cause so I tried switching it off and just using wired but still the same.

The EU firmwares haven't been updated for some time. I think I'll give the US 1.21b05 a try, I can't see why it shouldn't work. Let me know if you have any suggestions otherwise I'll try the new US firmware.
