Wow - I just configured to RAID1 and thought I would see how performance is doing.  Copying a 3GB file to the NAS did just over 5Mbps, copying off did over 11Mbps.  Smaller files copied from the NAS at 15 Mbps.

That is disappointing for a GB LAN.  At least streaming from the NAS is faster.

How can I measure the transfer rate?

I just rec'd my 321 yesterday (with two 1TB drives).  They are the Black Caviar (WD10EARS) drives.  I initially confirgured the 321 as Raid 1 with Ext 2 format.  I then copied my media files onto it. I was able access all files and play 720p video without any issue.

Then after finding this forum and reading a few posts I decided to reformat as (2) separate drives.  I'm in the process of recopying my files and the performance is terrible.  Shouldn't this be faster than RAID?

Did some poking around the web this weekend...  Looks like 15MB/s is the best you can expect on this device.  One of the clearer explanations I found was here: http://www.krazyworks.com/gadget-review-dlink-dns-321-nas/.  Now if only I could figure out how to get to 15MB/s from the 6.5 that I have right now.
