Hi!

I bought a DIR-655 last week and have a very odd problem: have set up the DIR router after my Modem/Router Netgear DG834 when i connect a laptop with LAN cable to one of the LAN ports on the DIR i can access internet without any problem.
When i search wireless network from my laptop the DIR turns up and have excellent reception(4-5bars).
This works fine when i start for ex. google, but then after clicking on a link or trying to access any other webadress, the internet disconnects?? (i still have excellent reception between the router and laptop.)
It also seems that the internet connection is reestablished automatically after 1-2 min, but disconnects again after a few minutes.   
I have the same issue with WII, the WII console finds DIR but when I'm trying to update the firmware in the WII console the connection stop working.
One more Q: when i connect LAN cable from modem to DIR i get no internet access, should it be that way? Does anyone have chart of how u are suppose to connect LAN cabels between modem/DIR/stationary PC?

Your NG device is a modem and router and now your adding another router. It's recommended to only use one router on a home system as this can introduce connection issues like Double NAT'g. Have 2 network address translators on the same network doesn't work well. You can bridge or change to transparent mode on your NG modem. This will turn off it's internal router and then pass along everything to the 655 router so you can use all it's features and options.

For your wireless. I would recommend changing to a single G mode or mixed G and N at 2.4GHz. Only broadcast the mode that your devices only support. Not much use for A and B any more. Also wireless disconnections can be effected by other WiFi in the area and house cordless phones that run at 2.4 and 5Ghz ranges.

i have tried to set the NG into brigde mode/modem mode, but then i get not connection with internet at all?

you did enter in any PPPoE account information into the DLink router haven't you? I presume that your DSL is using PPPoE and there is a user name and password that you used on the NG modem. This needs to be put into the DLink router if this is the case with your ISP. You might call up NG and ask them to make sure bridging is supported and being configured correctly.

no, i have dynamic IPīs from my ISP, no loggin or password.

Then I would call NG and ask them on what to do to get the modem into bridge mode or make sure that the Dlink router is getting the ISP addressing and not a 192.168 IP address on the WAN side.

If you are able to get the modem into Bridge mode, you may need to power cycle the 655 in order for it to get an IP address form your ISP.

Hi brobben2,

Remove Power from the NetGear and D-Link.

Never upgrade firmware over a Wireless Connection.

Take the D-Link out of Bridge Mode.
Set the NetGear's Firewall to fully open.
Plug the D-Link's Wan Port Ethernet Cable into the first LAN Port on the NetGear Modem / Router.
Restore Power to the NetGear and D-Link.
From the Wired Computer, place the D-Link Router into the DMZ Zone on the NetGear Router. Turn off the Wireless portion of the NetGear Modem / Router.

Similar to the setup I have. I don't have a WII Console.
