I picked up a DIR-601 because the sales guy said that what I was trying to do was possible with this model, but after reading through the manual, I can't figure out how to do it, so I'm hoping someone here might have some instructions on configuring the DIR-601 to do what I'm trying to accomplish.

I have an ExpressVU Satellite receiver (Dish Network uses the same hardware) that has a network port, and a Toshiba TV that also has a network port.  Unfortunately there is no way to program WPA/WEP keys into these devices, so I can't simply stick a wireless adapter in them, but they will work fine picking up a DHCP address from a cabled connection to the network.  Unfortunately, it's not possible to drag a network cable from these devices to my router, so what I thought should be possible is to use physical network cables to plug these two devices into a wireless router and have that router use the wireless connection to connect to my other wireless router so they can be accessible on my home network.

The main router in my house is a 2Wire Modem/Router/Hub/Wireless Access Point that was provided by my ISP.  I read through the DIR-601 manual and it has instructions for creating a second access point and using a physical cable to connect it to another router, but I couldn't find anything in the manual that would let me connect it to the network using the wireless.

Is this possible with the dLink DIR-601 or did the guy in the store tell me what I wanted to hear to make a sale???  If it is possible, can anyone point me in the direction of a set of instructions for configuring the dLink router??

The 601 can not be configured as a wireless bridge, the firmware does not support it. to set it up as a wireless bridge you need to have a router that supports it through its own firmware or accepts custom firmware like dd-wrt.  I have a Linksys 610n setup as a wireless bridge using dd-WRT and the DIR-601 sending stuff to it in another room.

I have the dir-601 as my main router. Its IP settings are dynamic, not static. My second router, the router I'd like to use as the access point is a Belkin Wireless G Mimo. My goal is to setup the Belkin as an access point downstairs away from the main router. I'd like to do this wirelessly. I'd like to phsycialy plug devices into the Belkin, while the Belkin receives access to the internet wirelessly from my main router, the dir-601.

Here's my issue. There's an easy option to use the Belkin as an access point. So I do this and set the Belkin router to an IP outside the DCHP range ( currently 192.168.0.100 - 192.168.0.199 ) to 192.168.0.250. My dir-601 will only recognize the Belkin access point while plugged in physically. I know this because when I did a ping test it only see's the Belkin when plugged into the dir-601 via ethernet cables.

My ultimate goal is to simply set the dlink dir-601 to recognize the Belkin as an access point.

You may be able to get this to work. I'm running a similar config at my house with an Apple Airport being the main router, and a D-Link 300M as the slave. What's your WAN config like? If you connect to the router and enter the admin screens, under Network -> WAN the "Wan connection type" should be "Dynamic IP". Mine cannot be set to bridge mode so if you're setting yours up for dual-NAT like I have, just make sure you configure DHCP to an address range different from the one used by your main router.
