How do I?
« on: January 01, 2011, 01:40:32 PM »

I have setup a user for FTP access with username and password, now I want to setup a annoymous user to access files from a folder without a username and password for my clients to click on a link I email them and the download starts automatically, there will be nothing in there other than winzip or Acrobat Reader etc, most of my clients have no idea how to download and navigate their way through download sites and think this one click will save both of us alot of time.
Cheers

Create user anonymous (note the spelling) without a password and see if that works - I think it did for me.

I have done that with one "n" but does work, can you see if you can access it as a download link?
ftp://125.236.243.235/Volume_1/FTP/Files/StartupCPL.exe

But does work?  Should that be be "but does not work"?

If I enter ftp://125.236.243.235 into my browser window (IE8), I can see the contents of the folder (StartupCPL.exe), so it does allow me anonymous access, but, the link that you are using will fail because of an incorrect path.

Jep, I assume "claytonb" has assigned the path /Volume_1/FTP/Files/ to the home directory for anonymous access. So if an anonymous user accesses the server, he gets the contents of this path, without the path itself.

ftp://125.236.243.235/StartupCPL.exe in IE8 brings up the log on prompt window so I ticked the log on anonymously box and log on but it keeps flashing back up again, the first time I went to ftp://125.236.243.235/StartupCPL.exe it says page can not be displayed but refreshing it a few times shows the log on to ftp server.
What is the simplist way to do this?
