I've been so unlucky to get a "faulty" / bad DGL-4500.
You can read the situation here:

Lucky for me I just started working at a computer store here in Norway, and the D-Link headquarters is just by it and we've got the best contact and deals with D-Link Norway in this country, so I talked to the head of D-Link Norway which will replace my router without any issues :)

Though he can't give me another DGL-4500 back as that's not possible to get here in Norway, so I can more or less choose whatever D-Link Router / product I find best suited for me, even if it's worth a bit more than my DGL-4500! Talk about be lucky!

Then I could need some help deciding which product to go for?
I've got options like the DIR-655 and DIR-855, or perhaps some different series?

What would you recommend being the fastest and most stable router / access point D-Link got these days when it comes to my usage?

I don't really need 5GHz wireless as I've got no wireless card supporting it, is there really any cards that do any ways? Smallnetbuilder also claims the 5GHz to be a bit "buggy", it's not really any point of it if your not living in a place where there are wireless networks everywhere destroying your signal! When it comes to performance their tests proves the 2.4GHz to be more stable than the 5GHz, I guess that has something to do with the 5GHz being fresh, it needs time to improve. And as there is so few options for 5GHz cards available I did never happen to use it on my DGL-4500 at all, so I find that function rather useless.

What I really need is the fastest product, we will be getting a 50/50mbit fiber line so the router should be able to handle at least that, also good local speeds is required along with it to be rock stable! Even when heavy loaded by lots of torrentconnections at once etc..

When it comes to the wireless I really don't care that much because I only use it on my MSI Wind.
On my gaming computer it's CAT7 all-the-way! Though I've got a draft-N card in my MSI Wind and I want a stable wireless experience along with okay local speeds and wide range!

It shouldn't be that hard to OPEN the router either, I want to be able to have at least one IP that's not affected by the routers firewall AT ALL! That seemed almost impossible with the DGL-4500 as it kept blocking stuff even after using both DMZ and forwarding EVERY SINGLE PORT?

Good QoS is also a nice feature to have, the GameFuel feature on the DGL-4500 was rather nice and easy to setup as it's pre-made for prioritizing games. And it did actually work as intended, at least with the latest firmwares. I bet the StreamEngine on the DIR-series is almost identical with the GameFuel feature just that it doesn't have any pre-made settings for different games so I will need to do things more manually, but that's no problem.

So which D-Link product would you recommend me to get?

Top of the line, as you know, is the DIR-855.  This reportedly has a faster processor and a slight boost in transmit power to give you the cleanest signal.
While you don't use the 5GHz range, it would be there if you need it at some point.

The DIR-655 is very good as well.  It also has a better track history than the DIR-855 does.  The 855 was plagued by problems from the day it was released.  But the V2 is reportedly much more stable.

Both will allow you the easy setup with games.

I would recommend trying the emmulators for both, read the reviews on the internet, feedback on the forums and then make your decision.

I just got an 855 myself.  I also have a DAP-1522 which will be bridging my network where cables cannot easily go.  I plan on trying the 5GHz mode for this to see if it helps.  The DAP-1522 works fine on 802.11g now though.

Good luck!
