DNS-323 Dead?
« on: January 17, 2011, 12:30:23 PM »

Hi, new to the forum I have searched but cannot find anything exactly the same as this.

I have a DNS 323 with 2 x 500gb Barracuda RAID0 set up. Came back from being away with work to find that the drive wasn't mapping to my MAC or PC. Looked further into to find that both drives were both blank. I showed both drives in the 323 to be formatted, but it only formats to 13% the I get error code 115 & it won't format the drives. In RAID or any other configuration.

I have bought a USB SATA caddy to look at the drives they are readable on my MAC but not my PC.

I have swapped them in their bays backdated the Firmware upgraded the Firmware it was on 1.08 when this happened.

Don't a factory reset using both methods.

Please can you help or is this thing dead?

It can be found using the easy search & the drives are shown but just won't format.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm guessing the data is gone if the NAS partially formatted them, and you're not going to recover data from a partially formatted RAID0 array easily. I would run SMART tests (smartmontools) and/or manufactures diagnostics on the drives to see if there is a problem with either of them.
