Strange Xbox 360 Issue w/ DIR-655
« on: August 23, 2008, 08:48:32 PM »

When turning on 360 console, I get an "Can't Connect to Xbox Live" message. Prompt has two choices "ok" or "Test Connection". Test connection always works without an issue. All tests pass each and every time. It's strange that I must go through Xbox Live testing each time i start the 360.

Have a 360, Verizon Fios link, and a D-Link DIR-655 Router. Through the router's DHCP, I assigned a fixed address to the 360. 360's IP address is the same. Port forwarding (TCP/UDP) is set according to XBox Live specs referencing console's IP address. 360's DNS is set to automatic, which I assume uses the router for DNS.

BTW: D-Link 655 router was recently purchased needing more wireless support than the my oringinal D-Link router (DI-624) provided. As I said earlier, the only issue is going through Live's test connection process each time.

Thanks.

Issue resolved:
1. Xbox console DNS set on automatic. For some reason, console doesn't get DNS connection at startup until 'test connection' is run. Then it finds DNS and completes test  successfully without issues.
2. Edited console's DNS setting to manual and entered DNS (192.168.0.1) as primary and secondary. Problem resolved.
