TCP and UDP for xbox live being blocked
« on: September 17, 2008, 02:25:18 AM »

Ok, I bought the 4100 to replace a toasted router.   But my problem is when playing Call of Duty4 I have never been the host.  I have checked the router logs after playing on the xbox and it has a list of TCP incoming connection requests blocked there have also been a few IMCP and UDP also.  I have set up the game rule for xbox live and even opened the ports that are on the list of blocks but still everytime the game searches for a host I never get picked.  I have noted the times and they line up with the times a blocked connection requests get logged. And it's repeated a few times so it looks like it tried to connect a few times.

I have a cable modem and the up-link from the chart on the router has it at 610kbps.  My dl speed is 7.8mbs , and it shows when I download a game demo or video from XBlive.   I have tried calling customer support and that was part of the problem.  Not to sound like a total ass but it's hard to understand someone that doesn't speak the clearest english.......  And it also seems like they just have a list of general info nothing too technical.  I tried to explain to him what was going on and he just had me reset and clone my mac address, make sure my computer can surf the web and the Xbox connects to live.

Regardless, I am having some kind of issue with possibly the firewall??   I have been the host a few times that I know of but that was with my first router.....  I have also moved the xbox further from the router so the cable run is longer, but that shouldn't be an issue, should it?  It's cat 5e and it's about 30ft. Just wondering......   I will greatly appreciate any help.

Ok, disregard my last post...... I have finally figured it out with the help of other posts for the 4500.   I set up the game rule along with gamefuel giving the TCP and UDP ports for Xbox live highest priority and disabled the spi and upnp and now everything works like it should. I have also been a game host for COD4 a few times now without any problems.
