Using Two Computers With The DGL-4500
« on: January 25, 2011, 02:51:39 AM »

I have a PC wired to my DGL-4500, and I'm going to get an iMac and use it wireless.  I am going to go back and forth between machines, and not use them simultanously.  I was told in another forum that if I have this setup, I should disable Gamefuel and Wish.  Is this correct?  Also, any other suggestions?  Thanks.  :)

If your not doing any gaming with game consoles or gaming on PC, then yes you can disable gamefuel. If you don't do any video streaming over wireless, yes you can disable WISH. I have gamefuel enabled for me as I game on XBL. I have 15 devices on my system including a Mac Book Pro connected via AirPort Extreme and iPhones. All work well. I would recommend using Static IP addressing however if you only have 2 devices then might not be needed. Will work well for you. If your not using WiFi you could shut that off. If you do then I would set up the WiFi mode of single mode G if you don't have any devices that use A/B or N. If you do need N then set for mixed G and N mode at 2.4GHz.

Thank you.  I didn't mention in my post that I also have an Android phone and Kindle via WiFi (sorry).  So, since the iMac has N capability, and I'm not doing gaming, do I need to have a Static IP?  There will be a total of 4 devices, one hardwired and three wireless.  If I need a Static IP, would I get that through my ISP?

you set up the static IP addressing thru the routers web page. It will be under Basic/Networking. You will see a list towards the bottom. This might be already populated. Look for the Reserve word link next to it. If you select this, this will auto fill in the Reservation fields in the above section. You can give it a name if you wish so you can easily ID that device. Then select Save. Do this for each device.
