Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN and 300Mbps?
« on: October 16, 2008, 04:15:20 PM »

Is it at all possible to achieve a 300MBps connection with my laptop with an Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN card and my D-link DIR-625 Rev-A2 router? I read the sticky that says you NEED a D-link card, is that really the case, and if so, why?

Thanks

The 4965AGN will always be limited to 130Mbps.  The "sticky" is true.  The Intel does not support the broader 40 Channel Width option.  However, you "might" be able to use a "dual band" model since the Intel 4965AGN can access the 5.0Ghz signals.  (I have tested an Intel 4965AGN wireless adapter on a non D-Link dual band router.)  Works at 54 Mbps on 2.4Ghz and 270 Mbps on 5.0Ghz.)

Alright but my router only has the 2.4Ghz signal, so I'd have to get a 5Ghz to improve on that. Makes sense. Another question: If I wanted to achieve the 300Mb/s all Id have to do is get an add on card that supports the 40 channel?

Thanks

Edit: Also could you recommend me a good USB wireless adapter that would achieve the 300Mb/s. I was looking at the DWA-140 http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=1&pid=652

Yes.  The DWA-140 is in the same grouping as your DIR-625.
