« on: January 24, 2011, 05:40:55 PM »

I buy this router to not lag at all. Today when I download a big file and play cod black ops. I was red bar whole game and my gamefuel is on I have 21 download and 4 upload 21 ping, open nat, dynamic fragmentation is off. I just want to know why i'm still lagging.

I would recommend you remain with Dynamic Fragmentation on, there is no need to turn it off when you have a 4Mbs upload speed. When playing with time sensitive information like COD you would be better off having it enabled. While downloading a big file such as the one you were, maybe the router did not recognized that you were gaming and thats why it is always better to set up a game fuel, may I ask what console you were on? Anyways have a great day.

You bring up an interesting question, which I would love to see some test done. It would be nice to get  someone from smallnetbuilder.com (or any reputable person on this forum) to run some practical test and get some hard evidence on this topic. Until its done it is purely speculation, although I am very satisfied with my 4500.

I just don't make things out of thin air, when I said I recommend you to turn off Dynamic Fragmentation it was because I myself have done test on it. I created a guide to increase  connection and stability for the play station 3 you should check it out http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=16330.0 I ran a bunch of test with the router to make sure I got it right and having dynamic fragmentation gave me less performance. Anyways why would you even turn dynamic fragmentation off? There is no benefits having it on off. Have a great day.

Edit:

To answer you question "is gamefuel fake" gamefuel is just a method in which the router determines which packets should go faster and which ones can take there time, so game packets are more time sensitive that a video stream. So game packets will get priority than a video stream and this all will help maintain a balance in the router and network. While others router don't do this every one lags, people streaming there video will slow down and people playing games will also start to lag because they all are going at the same time and same speed.

I play on Xbox 360 cod black ops. I have Automatic Classification [ON] so no need to actually setup my gamefuel to 1 because is going to mess up my speed. Another thing when you say "While downloading a big file such as the one you were, maybe the router did not recognized that you were gaming and thats why it is always better to set up a game fuel" What do you man I have my Automatic Classification [ON] and I restart my xbox 360. I think gamefuel is good with like little small files, because when I tested with big file download. Everything went lagging red bar and I spent $150 for this router not too lag.

My Automatic Classification is ON as well along with the rest of the Gamefuel settings. The only thing that is not ON is Dynamic Fragmentation. I download files and my roomate works from home and sometimes he's online while I'm gaming and I don't see any lag. I'm playing Black Ops tonite. If your not using Gamefuel and your seeing lag and red bars while downloading something, probably need to review the sticky once more. It works great for me and others on here.
