DIR-655 Can not connect to PlayStation@Network....HELP
« on: December 22, 2009, 05:36:35 PM »

I am using the DIR-655 extreme gigabit gaming router for my ps3. ???

IP address
: 192.168.123.50.
subnet mask:255.255.255.0
Default Router: 192.168.123.254
Primary DNS: XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX
Secondary DNS: XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX
MTU: 1492
Proxy: do not use
Umpn: Available
NAT Type: Failed

Everytime I do Network Test it obtains a IP and it gets a internet connection then Fails at PlayStation@Network.

Here is what I have done to trouble shoot this:

1. I eliminated the router all together.. Connected DSL modem directly to the Playstation and configured my PPOE settings and it connects just fine to the PlayStation@Network without any problems. Sense this will impede the use of any other network device this is not a optimal setup. But it does point to my router/firewall settings.

2. Connected the router back up. Reserved a DHCP IP address for the PS3 192.168.123.50 and I put it in the DMZ. Same thing no PlayStation@Network.

3. I configured port forwarding and still no joy.

Funny thing is I created and registered my Playstation@Network account using the PS3 and if I use my PC (which is connected to the same router ) I can login without any problems.

THis is a log from my router:
[INFO] Sat Jan 31 10:43:02 2004 UPnP deleted entry 255.255.255.255 <-> 220.157.135.79:3658 UDP
[INFO] Sat Jan 31 10:42:51 2004 Blocked outgoing ICMP packet (ICMP type 3) from 192.168.123.50 to 198.107.157.138
[INFO] Sat Jan 31 10:42:51 2004 UPnP added entry 255.255.255.255 <-> 220.157.135.79:3658 <-> 192.168.123.50:3658 UDP timeout:-1 '192.168.123.50:3658 to 3658

I can update the PS3 software as the internet works fine and I can browse the internet without problems the only frustrating thing is I can't play online unless I connect to The  Playstation@Network.

Tried the autodetect network with the PS3 and I get the same thing. It obtains a good IP (Static DHCP Reserved 192.168.123.50) it also detects a good internet connection then it sits on connecting to PlayStation@Network until it fails(Times out).  I do have uPNP enabled so it shouldn't be a port issue. At this point I may have to play directly connected to my DSL Modem. DLINK is of little help because English is there second language and they try to point to my ISP.

Trouble shooting to this point:

Have eliminated Router (Connected directly to DSL Modem. Configured PPOE settings on the PS3) and it connects to the PlayStation@Network  just fine.

Have Reserved a DHCP address and put it in the DMZ....Does not connect.

Have set the PS3 as priority one for traffic through put...... Does not Connect.

Have forwarded the Ports that Sony says to forward......Does not Connect.( When I mean Does not Connect I am saying is it Gets a good IP and a good internet connection it just times out when establishing a PlayStation@Network connection)

I can do PS3 updated, Game updates, Browse the internet but can not connect to the  PlayStation@Network on my PS3. I can use my PC that is connected to the same router, on the same network, and on my PC I can log on with out fail.

My Router has the latest firmware 1.32NA. I  am a Windows XP MCSE and I have worked in the IT field for over 25 years and it takes a little router problem to make me feel like an idiot.

Does anybody have anything else I can try?  Beside another router.

I'm in the same boat as you regarding the PS3. I will let you know if I hear of any working solution.

I was told this router was "plug and play" with the PS3, but it has not been enjoyable thus far.

The router also cuts my internet speed down by around 45%.  >:(

and what AREN'T you telling us?

Being in the field for 25 years, I find it hard to believe that you are not running something else on the network in front of the router. Another firewall? another switch? managed maybe? VLAN?

My connection is just fine from ps3>router>modem. The only time I had initial problems was connecting the ps3 behind a corporate type firewall in an aggregated dual wan setup, which every rule has to be explicitly set etc etc.

I'm probably coming out as crude, but i'm not one take everything as it is. I too reserve some things behind the scenes so people don't automatically say "ah that's why" and give you the run-around and push you off to another forum, or manufacture etc etc.
