Having problems getting ffxi to connect on my ps3.
« on: January 05, 2010, 06:37:34 PM »

Hello I just got my router a week ago and I am having some issues with it. I cant get it to play ffxi on my ps3. The router gets me on to the interent with the ps3 and I can play other games but for ffxi it just freezes up when trying to get past the first login screen. It freezes up at the dnas part. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Does the PS3 have a static IP?  If so, you might try letting the router assign the IP to the PS3.  Also make sure uPNP is turned on in the router.  It's located under the advanced tab -->> advanced network menu.

Sometimes you can run into problems when the device in this case your PS3 had a static IP that was manually entered into the console.  If you still want to give it a static ip, set the console to automatic, then use the DHCP reservation list on the router to lock it to one ip.

DHCP reservation is under the basic tab -->> Network settings

Another thing to check is see if dynamic fragmentation is checked.  I had to turn mine off to eliminate some disconnects on from Xbox live.  That option is under gamefuel.  If after doing all that you are still experiencing problems, you might try adding a gaming rule to open some ports. www.portforward.com is a good site to find out what ports you might need to open and how to do it.  BTW, the 4500 comes pre-programed with some gaming rules.

Give that a try and post back.

Thanks alot for the help sadly its still not getting me onto ffxi. Could windows 7 be the cause of the problem. When we initially set up the router it wouldnt recognize network magic and maybe its not recognizing other programs or features of the router?

edit: Ok so I left the load in screen on and it actually logged me into ffxi. It is moving incredibly slow like backwards almost. And it fails at character select screen saying no response from the ffxi server connection timed out then it says press ok to shut down.

I'm sure you have resolved this issue or are dealing with it.  I also have the same problem with my XBOX360 and D-Link router.  FFXI does not support wireless or routers.  I can't even plug into my router and use it.  If you figured anything out, please let me know.

I don't see how a game can "not support a router". Could you explain this? Are you talking about the NAT type? Does it use some unique kind of traffic the router can't route? Or is it it just doesn't work with "your" router?
