Hi. I have a spiffy new DCS-920 wireless webcam & a Cisco E-3000 router to go with it. I have it set up & running.......... mostly.
I'm having problems with Motion Detection Recording & I'm looking for some help. No one answers the phone at D-Link support. No reply from e-mail support request yet. I only have a single camera system so far. If I can get the Motion Detection problems resolved I'll add more cameras. The system does what I want, it just has problems with Motion Detection.
I'm running the D-ViewCam Version 2.03 that came on the install disk w/ the camera. I see there is now a new & improved Version 3.x but before I go down that road I'd like to be sure it will help.
I'm running in Economy Recording mode, which as best as I can figure out is 24/7 motion detection recording. I have Event Detection enabled for my only camera. I have the area in the image hilighted for where I want motion detection enabled. I have "sensitivity" & "frequency" set to 0 (default settings). And this is what I want. Unfortunately I have 2 "issues" that I can't get resolved.
I have the camera pointed out a window at the exterior of the property. I'm trying to use the system as a security system to record vandalism, etc on the property.
The 1st is that after dark streetlights turn on in the field of view of the camera. When this happens the software immediately begins recording of detected motion & records continuously. There is no motion in the image, just the burning streetlight. Due to the environment surrounding the property there will always be at least 2 streetlights in the field of view of the camera. I had to disable motion detection recording to prevent constant recording of "nothing". I tried playing with the "sensitivity" & "frequency" settings without success. The streetlights are NOT in the field of view where motion detection is enabled, although for some reason the software detects the burning streetlight as constant motion.
The 2nd problem is that during daylight hours only objects that are large enough or fast enough (or maybe a combination of large & fast enough) trigger motion detection. By large enough I mean roughly 1/8 of the entire image. By fast enough I mean travel across the entire image in roughly a second. Anything smaller or slower doesn't trigger motion detection, even though it occurs in the area of the image enabled for motion detection. I've played around with the "sensitivity" & "frequency" settings enough to know that the default settings are what are necessary to trigger any motion detection at all (motionless streetlight detection not withstanding).
Does anyone else use their security system this way please? Do you have similar problems or are you storing on Motion Detection as expected? Have you seen these problems with version 2.x of ViewCam that were corrected with version 3.x?
Are there any 3rd party camera software packages that might better suit my needs?
Thanks for your help.
