DWA-160 doesn't recognize 5ghz channel on DIR-825
« on: October 30, 2008, 10:23:18 AM »

I have a DIR-825 router and a DWA-160 adapter in a 5 year old laptop running XP SP2. I can connect on the 2.4ghz band and get ~245mbps, but the adapter doesn't even see the 5ghz channel. I have 2 other laptops with internal Intel adapters and they connect to 5ghz without any problems. Any suggestions as to how I should configure the 825 so that I can recognize and connect to 5ghz with the DWA-160? I've tried different Modes and Channel Widths without any success.

Thanks

Try using Window's wireless network manager with your DWA-160. see if that detects your 5Ghz network.

Also. what kind of distances are we talking about here?

Answered my own question.

I changed the Width to 20/40 and the adapter found the 5ghz channel. The problem with that is 5ghz doesn't penetrate walls nearly as well as 2.4ghz and my speed is down to 50mbps. Guess I'll switch back to the 2.4ghz channel.
