I'm trying to use a DAP-1522 to "repeat" a weak signal from my router (DIR-655).  Once set up, do I need an ethernet cable plugged in, or can I just simply power the unit and place it in an area to repeat the signal?

Additionally, do I set it as an AP or Bridge to do this???

As you can see... I really need the help.

You can't use the router as a repeater.  You can use it as a wireless router or bridge.

If you use it as a bridge then you will effectively have use of the ethernet switch and no wireless.


In order to have wireless extended, you would need to set up another wireless router off of one of the ports of the 1522.  That is what I am having to do as well.

LOVE your little picture. this was the reason I went with these products...but guess what. Dlink says it will not work that way.

I tried for days to set a game console and a network DVR into the bridge and use a 5GHz signal to the router and IT WILL NOT WORK THAT WAY.  Per tech support the bridge has to have a hardwire run from it to the router for the 5GHz signal to work.   

The more I think about this, the more I think my state attourney general should review this as fraud.  And here it Dlinks own advertising showing that it would work this way.

It DOES work that way. The tech that told you it doesn't was either uninformed or confused about you were trying to do.
I have that exaclt setup working right now.

Same here, I have a PS2+PS3 connected to a dap-1522 with a 5GHz connect to a dgl-4500.

Next time ask for a 3rd level tech.
