DNS-320 - UPnp Setup/Streaming issue to Sony Blu-Ray BDV-E370
« on: February 04, 2011, 03:03:17 AM »

Hello,

Posting here as there is no DNS320 forum as far as I can see. I'm usually pretty good at problem solving but this one truly has me stuck!

I'm having issues setting up the UPnp server. All other features seem to be working fine, even the fact I'm using a single advanced format WD drive!

Basically i'm trying to get content to stream from the DNS-320 to the Sony Blu ray player.

Just trying to get a single file to work at the moment. I know the Sony player can be a bit picky about which file formats it will accept and which it wont so i've verified a particular file plays and I can get it to stream from my PC (Win XP) machine ok - it shows up in the listings on the Sony player ok and plays fine.

I've followed the instructions on the NAS box, enabled the Upnp, and the Sony player shows the NAS box, so I am connected. I've tried serving both the root 'Volume_1' and even individual folders within there, placing the verified file in each- it shows "System is building your media library", this completes to 100%, i click finish. But nothing shows up on the file system of the Blu-Ray player....

Is there something i'm not doing right? Is there something i've forgotten to switch on? Even been reading about similar issues with the DNS-321 and 323 to see if i can find a solution to this. Some people say resetting to factory defaults, or resetting the DNS ip address and then restoring it seems to fix it.

Anyone had any luck getting the UPnP to work?

I can not comment on a Sony blu-ray player as I only own a samsung but I have streamed to my samsung without issues. Can you see the content on the NAS from your PC using something like WMP11/12?

Your reply got me thinking.

No i can't get it to stream to the PC, although it'll play if i just go through explorer etc.

Checked the Xbox360 to see if it could see the server and play anything - same problem, server shows up, but no content.

So, that kinda eliminated teh blu-ray player as being the problem per se.

GOT IT WORKING!!!!!!

From reading other forums here, it would appear that the E320 suffers the same problem as the E323(?), basically to get it to work i did the following:

Enabled UPnp
selected volume 1
-let it build the directory
clicked finish

then went into the maintenance section

reset to factory defaults
-let it reboot

re-enable UPnp
re-select volume 1
let it build library
click finish

works perfectly!

now my only prblem is getting mkv files to play on the blu-ray player without me having to change the container from mkv to avi!! lol!!

Thanks for your help!

MKV streaming wont work even on my Samsung LED TV UA32C5000.
If only they will upgrade uPnP AV server to act like e.g. Serviio then I will be happy.
